Why The Boston Bruins Are The Hottest Team In The NHL

Hockey article at Knup Sports

The Boston Bruins struggled at times this year but have tons of momentum ahead of the playoffs. See why Brendan Walk thinks they’re an Eastern Conference power.

The Boston Bruins are one of the most iconic teams in the NHL and have been a force to reckon with in the league during the last decade, but the Bruins did not have the best start to this year’s season. The Bruins at one point sat in fourth place in the Atlantic Division and things were not looking good at all. However, things have changed drastically and the Bruins are starting to peak at the perfect time.

Momentum in any sport is a huge factor and in the NHL momentum is everything. The Bruins have been on an absolute roll in the month of March as they have recorded a 10-3-1 record and they have now caught the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Standings. With the Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning shortly, the Boston Bruins are a team you do not want to face in the first round.

Boston Bruins Statistics

The Bruins are playing their best hockey of the year currently as they sit tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Pacific Division this year. The Bruins this season have obtained a record of 44-21-5 for 93 points as well as an impressive 21-12-2 record at home this season. Personally, I believe the most impressive part of the Bruins record has been that they have only recorded seven losses since February first, showing they’re not a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

The Bruins this season have one of the best defenses in the NHL this season, ranking in the top five for goals against average with a very low 2.54 goals against a game. The Bruins’ defense is led by Charlie McAvoy who is having an incredible season. He has recorded 50 points in 67 games played this season as well as a +18 +/- rating. McAvoy has been a huge contributor to the Bruins’ recent success and is the backbone of this team.

The Bruins goaltending has also been a huge factor to their recent success as they have two solid goaltenders between Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. Both goaltenders this season have recorded above .910 save percentages and have played phenomenal the last two months. The Bruins team defense needs to continue being their strongest attribute as they approach the postseason.

Why The Bruins Are The NHL’S Hottest Team

Why are the Bruins the hottest team going into the playoffs you may ask, well no team has recorded more wins than the Bruins since February first. The Bruins also have a phenomenal defense and two solid goaltenders which is the biggest reason they are in the playoff picture. Many other teams in the league have been hot as well, The Wild, The Stars, The Avalanche, but no team is playing as well rounded as Boston.

Acquiring Hampus Lindholm at the trade deadline was one of the best decisions the Bruins have made as he has made an immediate impact already and has given the Bruins even more defensive depth. The Bruins offense has also been solid and when you have a line with Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand, you do not need to worry about scoring depth. The Bruins power play has also been solid this year ranking themselves tenth in the NHL with a 23.3%.

Like them or not, the Boston Bruins are playing good hockey and they are set to play the Lightning in the first round of the playoffs if the season ended today. The Bruins have done well against the Lightning this season and if they can manage to get home ice advantage, then the Lightning better look out. With the Bruins record since February first being phenomenal and their ability to limit goals against, the rest of the league better be on watch entering the playoffs.
