Best Baseball Movies Made After 2000

Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

Do you like baseball? Do you like movies? Check out our list of the best baseball movies made after the year 2000.

America’s pastime would not be what it is today without baseball movies created about it. From comedies to documentaries, there is something out there for everyone, even non-baseball fans.

To make this list a little more interesting, we are ruling out movies made prior to 2000. With that being said, the all-time classics like The Sandlot, A League of Their Own, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams and Major League will not be on the list. These baseball movies are, well, in a league of their own you could say.

Nothing is off the table for this list. Let’s take a look at the three best baseball movies made after the year 2000. Can you guess the movies that will crack the list?

No. 3, 42 The Jackie Robinson Story

There is only one number that is retired by all of MLB, and that is 42. This number was worn by the great Jackie Robinson, and the famous baseball movie about him takes third on our list.

The 2013 film documents what it was like for Jackie Robinson as he became the first black athlete to play in MLB. Robinson was played by the late and great Chadwick Boseman and the film was loved by more than just baseball fans. It helped teach the audience about the problems of America that were not even that long ago.

42 is an emotional film that gives the audience many different feelings, but in the end, they are proud of Robinson for fighting through everything. Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the release of 42, yet its legacy will continue on.

No. 2, The Benchwarmers

We are going to change the vibe here with our second spot on the list. The Benchwarmers is not your traditional movie about baseball, but one of the funniest movies of all time. It gives off Bad News Bears vibes, which is a very good vibe to give off.

David Spade, Jon Heder and Rob Schneider formed one of the best baseball teams to ever exist. Led by Gus Bus, they were a powerhouse on the diamond. The Benchwarmers is one of those films with some of the best one-liners that people of all ages know and love.

This film came out in 2006 and was one of those movies kids watch at a younger age than they probably should. If you do not like this movie, you simply do not know how to have fun.

No. 1, Moneyball

All three movies on this list are ones that you never get tired of watching. Moneyball is no different, and takes the crown and the top spot on our list.

I have never met a baseball fan who does not like this movie. It also helps that Brad Pitt is the main character. Everybody love’s a little Brad Pitt in their lives. Moneyball helped fans and coaching staff alike say goodbye to the eye test, and hello to the new age of analytics.

This is a true story, as it was based upon a book that was written about the 2002 Oakland Athletics. Even in today’s age–maybe even more so than in 2002–this movie has merit. With teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees who have big wallets, the ideas of Moneyball are more prevalent than ever.

These are the three best baseball movies made in the 21st century. Do you agree with our list, or are there movies we missed?
