Last season the Volunteers finished 44-22 and 16-14 in the conference. In 2024, head coach Tony Vitello must work without ace pitcher Chase Burns. He left and joined the top team in the country at Wake Forest where he will be the ace.
Tennessee reached the College World Series in 2023, its second appearance in Omaha in three years. The Vols beat Stanford 6-4 in an elimination game to earn their first CWS win since 2001. They were bounced by eventual national champion LSU, which beat the Vols in the opening game as well to hand UT both of its losses in the double-elimination bracket.
But let’s focus on some returnees:
Infielder Christian Moore at 6’0” 200 lbs had the top batting average at .304 with 17 home runs including 50 runs batted in and 13 doubles.
North Carolina State transfer Cannon Peebles has joined the Vols and he projects to be their starting catcher. He is a switch hitter that batted .352 with 12 home runs and 53 runs batted in. He wa a Freshman All-American.
Nate Snead at 6’2” 220 lbs is a transfer hurler from Wichita State where he went 1-12 wih a 3.26 ERA as he fanned 53 in 42 innings. He garnered three saves.

The Vols open their 2024 season in Arlington, Texas at the Shriners Children’s College Baseball Showdown.
The tournament will be held on Feb. 16-18 at Globe Life Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers. UT will square off against Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Baylor.
