Watching an NFL game can be a lengthy process as the game is constantly stopped and sometimes there are reviews of the referee’s decision. Let’s face it, the game is fast and difficult to control. So the coaches get to challenge decisions. This is where the television network steps in and wants to ask an expert, with the help of slow motion and still frames if the decision on the field is correct.
Mike Pereira was hired in 2010 by Fox Sports as a rules expert for football contests. He was there for the NFL games and the college games. He was former vice president of NFL officiating and has years of experience in the game and is considered the expert to go to in finding out the correct answer.
He explains how the rule works and handles controversy on the field or in the tv booth. This book draws on his experience and his personal life s to how he got where he was and is today. He talks about being the child of a longtime official.
One thing about the book is that Periera has trouble criticizing officials. It is ingrained in him to protect the rules and the people who enforce them. This book is fine to read and can be a learning experience but the main parts are a bit slow and drawn out.
