I am not an avid reader of tennis books but this one really caught my attention. Once you begin the book it is hard to put it don for any length of time. the authors, Mats Hold and Ulf Roosvald know the Swedish tennis circle and they put out some good information. They understand the culture and relay it to the readers in this book.
At one time in tennis history, the Swedish tennis professionals were the best in the world. This book will take you through that rise and eventually the fall from supremacy. The authors share the scene around this phenomenon concerning the players, fans clothes and the rest of the world’s view of tennis in Sweden.
The book shares how Sweden’s King Gustaf V had an instrumental influence on tennis in his country. In the early history of tennis of Sweden, we read about a champion among women tennis players as Suzanne Lenlen and her contributions that span the globe and future tennis. The Super Swedes are identified as Bjorn Borg, Stefan Edberg, and Mats Wilander with biographical information on each of them. We understand why they played as they did and get to have an insight into their behavior.
One thing readers must do in spend some time in the middle of the book and carefully look and read each of them for a better understanding of the time that Sweden was the greatest tennis country in the world. The research of this book is fantastic each player which leads to how history will view the Golden Era of Tennis in Swedish history.
This is a good book that I recommend to sports fans and not just tennis aficionados. It is a chronicle of tennis for three decades and the Swedish influence in the game. Every sports fan needs this book on its shelf!
