Kansas City Royals

They are in the American League Central Division

Kansas City Royals Preview and Prediction 2024

Last season the Royals were 56-101 and last place in their division. The lost eight players to free agency and trades. They gained eight players and with that some of them have valuable major league experience.

The pitching staff will be anchored by two of their new arrivals with Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha. Wacha joins his sixth team in six seasons and he possesses a low 90’s fastball with change-up that is a plus pitch. Lugo was previously a reliever but has been converted to a starter. We will see how that transpires as the season rolls along. Lefty Cole Ragans was brought in mid season in a trade with Aroldis Chapman. He is a very good pitcher that should lead this team in wins. Brady Singer got beat around last year and watched his ERA jump to 5.52 and was hit hard. He may need a standby ready when he pitches. Jordan Lyle will get fifth spot unless someone over takes him in Spring training. He has been bad for several seasons and may need to be released.

The bullpen is made up of a new candidate in Will Smith. He has lost some luster in the past few years and look for former top prospect Alec Marsh to get his chances in the pen. Daniel Lynch will be available. The Royals picked up reliever Nick Anderson from the Braves. If he is healthy, he can help.

Catching duties are set but also aged in Salvador Perez. The perennial all star is a good pitch framer and blocker will help the anemic part of the pitching staff. Perez has a slowing bat, His back-up is Freddy Fermin and he won’t get much time. In the future look for draft pick Blake Mitchell to get the call.

The infield is anchored by top young payer in Bobby Witt, Jr. He has a great bat and speed on the path and at shortstop to be a leader in the league. He is capable of 35-45 home runs in a season. Maikel Garcia is at third base and his youth will play well for the Royals. He\is defense is above average along with great range. His bat needs some work. At first is Vinnie Pasquantino. He has gotten over his shoulder issues and poised for a good season. Second base belongs to Michael Massey who has a decent bat but needs help in the field.

The outfield has Hunter Renfroe, which they picked up as a free agent from the Reds.He has power in his bat but there are signs of that waning a bit recently. He will play right field. In center they have Kyle Isbel who is making strides to improve each year. He is not quite there as solid major leaguer. Left field finds MJ Melendez. He hits the ball hard with impressive exit velocity. Might be a bigger star in the making.

Prospects- Blake Mitchell, catcher with a big arm. Biding time for Perez to falter. Infielder Javier Vaz with great speed and impressive bat contact.

Predictions: The Royals are trying to get better and may rise to fourth in the AL Central with a 74-88 record.
