The PLL may be my personal favorite league in professional sports, it is not a mystery that a lot of fans that are getting into Lacrosse do not know much about the players of the game. However, something that remains consistent to every sport is how each player has an individual style of play that helps them or their team succeed. This is why I will be making the Top 4 Best PLL and NBA Comparisons so all of the mainstream viewers can learn about the players in the easiest way possible.
Trevor Baptiste x Rajon Rondo
Baptiste is not the star player on any team, but without him, the Atlas’ success would be nonexistent. Similar to how Rondo was a role player on the Celtics yet contributed so heavily to the success of Boston’s championship.
However, I do have to add that this is a comparison of their roles and playstyles rather than their personalities, as the two of them are nothing alike in that regard. Trevor Baptiste is a lovable and incredibly personable player, while Rondo has a history of being the opposite of that.
Blaze Riorden x Dikembe Mutombo
This one is quite simple, as the two of them are the best at protecting the net. Riorden won the league’s MVP last year saving 149 shots, ten more than the second-place player. Although putting Hakeem Olajuwon on this list may have made more sense due to his spot as No. 1 on the all-time block list, Mutombo was the better choice.
As I try and find the best comparison, it is clear that Riorden’s sole purpose on the field is to protect the net. Mutombo was very similar, while the Dream was known for his scoring prowess as well. Mutombo is the guy you look to for a block, and he averaged almost 3 per game in his career.
Lyle Thompson x Steph Curry
Lyle Thompson is arguably the best player in the PLL right now, and he is very clearly the best shooter. Steph curry represents this to the fullest extent. Not only is Lyle scoring a league-high 44 points, but he has also done it at a rate of 39%. This ties him for second-best out of the top 10 scorers in 2022.
Curry has always been known for his shooting prowess, seeing as he has ranked 11th in all-time 3-point percentage at 42.8%. What makes this statistic unbelievable is that he ranks first all-time in three points attempted, and he still maintains such a high percentage.
Brendan Nichtern x Lonzo Ball
This one may be the most convoluted, yet I remain the most confident about it as well. Brendan is a young player who has made his impact on the league as a pass-first player who is capable of scoring, yet still puts up incredible stats in both categories. When Lonzo Ball is healthy, he can do the same.
Lonzo is known for his flashy passes as a traditional point guard in the modern era, and Nichtern finds and feeds the open player at will. Nichtern makes the guys around him better, and Ball is held to a very similar standard.
