The young Pakistani Bowler has exploded onto the world stage as one of the best young talents in Cricket. Naseem Shah, currently 20 years old, has proved his ability in every form of Cricket. The young star earned his first international cap for Pakistan in 2019 at the age of 16.
In his early years, he performed to such a high level that he kept excelling through all the U-16 leagues and tournaments. He quickly rose to the top once he was called up to the national team. His fast bowling ability has taken the Cricketing world by surprise.
Shah’s second match for Pakistan against Sri Lanka saw him gain the record for being the youngest player to get 5 Wickets. In Shah’s second Test series, he gained the record of being the youngest Bowler to get a hat-trick in Test Cricket. It was his performance in this series against Bangladesh that saw him become a regular starter for the national side.
It wasn’t till last year that Naseem Shah made his debut for Pakistan in ODI and T20 matches. This would be a big turning point as he was bound to show how versatile he could play in all formats of the game.
Shah seemed to have struggled in his first international tournament for his nation in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Even with his country being runners-up, Shah still needs more professional tournament experience in international matches to reach his full potential.
PSL and T20 Leagues
While Shah only made his first national T20 appearance in 2022, he has been a regular since the age of 16 in the Pakistan Super League. Shah has played for the Quetta Gladiators since 2019 and is a key piece of their team.
Shah keeps himself extremely busy during the year. When he is not suiting up for Pakistan’s national side, you can find him playing all across the world in different T20 leagues.
Shah plays for league teams in England, Bangladesh, and the West Indies. He is trying to gain as much experience to grow his game at the young age he is currently at.
Future Captain?
Naseem Shah, at the age of 20, already seems poised for greatness. He is slowly emerging as not only Pakistan’s best Bowler but perhaps one of the best in the world. Under the leadership of Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, this could enable him to one day be Pakistan’s captain.
Currently, it seems that Pakistan has a great generation of talented players that are poised to reach success. They reached the finals of the T20 World Cup last year, but that could be their first step toward success.
