Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. was killed after being struck by a passing vehicle in South Florida Saturday morning.
A former standout at Ohio State, Haskins finished third in the 2018 Heisman voting and was selected with the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. His agent, Cedric Saunders, broke the news to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Haskins was 24 years old and leaves a wife behind.

Information is slowly being released from the scene of the crime. What is known is that Haskins was struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning in South Florida, where he was spending the offseason working out with fellow members of the Steelers offense.
Haskins was set to enter his second year in Pittsburgh after spending his first two seasons with the Washington franchise. He was released from Washington in 2020 and signed with the Steelers the following year.
The 24-year-old never took the field in a regular-season game for Pittsburgh but was expected to compete for the starting job following Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement.
“Simba,” as he was known, rose to national popularity during his lone season as the full-time starter at Ohio State in 2018; he threw for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions that season while leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record with a win against #9 Washington in the Rose Bowl.
