Manchester United and Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes is okay after he was involved in a car crash near the team’s training facility, per reports. Fernandes is expected to be available for Man U’s English Premier League fixture with second-place Liverpool Tuesday afternoon.

The incident reportedly occurred next to Trafford Training Centre, the team’s Carrington base on Monday; the 27-year-old’s vehicle struck another near a residential section of Dunham, Chesire, and did not result in any serious injuries.

Fernandes will continue training as normal, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Bruno Fernandes involved in an accident

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Bruno Fernandes is okay and preparing to play against Liverpool in the midweek clash between two of the most famous and prestigious clubs in the world.

“He’s training with the team,” said Rangnick. “Obviously, the accident happened on the way to Carrington, but as far as I know, nobody was injured.”

“He trained with the team, he was OK and will be OK for tomorrow.”

Fernandes figures to start in his customary attacking midfield role, slotting behind Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese midfielder played 90 minutes in a 3-2 win against Norwich City over the weekend and has totaled nine goals and six assists in 29 domestic starts.

Preparing for an uphill battle

Man United fans will welcome the news of Fernandes’ health, not only out of good faith but also because he is desperately needed for a tough climb into the top four. The Red Devils find themselves fifth in the league table with 54 points, three behind fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur, and level with sixth-place Arsenal, who have a game in hand on their familiar rivals.

Although the club is still out of the Champions League picture, they are much closer than they were a few weeks ago, when they were in seventh place and many points behind fourth place; recent points dropped by Arsenal and Tottenham allowed them to move back up.

The Liverpool game will also mark the first of an important three-game fixture list comprised of matches at Arsenal and against Chelsea.

Liverpool won the last meeting between the two teams 5-0 back in 2021. The match will kick off Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
